A Sample of Hints and Tips from the Budget Tip Store
Holidays and Travel:
The cheapest travel option of all is to walk once you reach your destination. Tour the town by foot and you will get a fascinating as well as a healthy, view of the sites.
Personal Finances:
If you don’t have the cash, don’t buy it.
Pay your mortgage pay weekly or fortnightly as interest is calculated daily, by paying it more often you reduce the interest off your loan
General Shopping:
Don’t be frightened of ‘second-hand shops’. If it’s good enough to donate your pre-loved goods, then surely it’s good enough to shop there also
Leave your kids at home when you shop – unless they understand the word “no”.
Entertainment and Lifestyle:
If you’re a Senior, don’t leave home without your Seniors Card. It entitles you to discounts at shops, cafes, restaurants and cinemas displaying the Seniors Card sign.
Plan a meal, invite your friends over and ask them to not only bring some of the ingredients, but tell them that they can help with the cooking. It’s a very social activity
In the Garden:
Anything that can hold soil can become a planter. An old cracked chimera, a rusted wheelbarrow, or a pretty basket lined with plastic.
Transport and Cars:
If you have a small chip on your car windscreen, try to get it fixed as soon as possible. Fixing an entire windscreen will cost much more than fixing a minor chip.
Around the House:
Save on family haircuts by learning how to do it yourself.
Make your own cleaning products from vinegar and bicarbonate of soda
Use off-peak energy and try to run electrical appliances during off peak times eg. run the pool pump overnight or use dishwashers and clothes-dryers off-peak
Keeping Warm:
Only heat the space that you are in. Central heating is great, but if your family only use one or two rooms, then you are throwing away vast amounts of energy and money to heat the entire house.
